Cassavetes Credited for only five episodes?

Hey, I was reading the details for this show on IMDB, and noticed that they credited Cassavetes for acting in five episodes of the show - but he was Johnny Staccato! They list 27 episodes in the breakdown - what's the catch?
I caught an episode of this show, 'tempted,' on a Universal title called "brilliant but cancelled crime dramas"- it's amazing! I need to know more about it. The dialogue by Carr is tight, the music soothing. I didn't think television like this existed in the late fifties.

IMDB often does that, like listing Carroll O'Connor in 35 episodes of ALL IN THE FAMILY when everyone knows he was in all the shows. Don't know why this is done.
BTW, I have maybe 9 episodes of STACCATO. Some scenes are obviously done on soundstages, while others are on location, e.g., running into and out of subway stations, the front of the long-gone St. Nicholas Arena. Cassavetes was a very edgy TV presence at a time when laid-back was more the rule (Of course, this doesn't explain why M SQUAD with the extremely edgy Lee Marvin lasted more than one season and STACCATO didn't).

Funny you should mention that, as the fifth season AITF episode "Mike's Friend", doesn't have Carroll O'Connor in it!

As for Staccato, my copy of the new set is on the way and I look forward to discussing it. Hopefully, we Staccato fiends can get the conversational ball rolling!

IMDb credits Cassavetes as "Director" of five episodes.

Under "Cast" he is credited with being in all 27 episodes.

i dont think its possible to find all 27, i bought a dvd set and it had only 20. unsurprisingly some episodes have dated better than others and all the ones directed by Cassa are much better

All 27 episodes are now in one DVD box. No extras, but the 14 eps I've watched so far look very good, probably much better than they could have looked on TV sets in '59-'60. I wonder how Cassavetes was allowed to direct several episodes. That was something that wasn't done on a regular basis at the time (and yes, I know about Ozzie Nelson and Jack Webb).

pacwarbuff, i certainly hope so! i'd love to discuss this terrific show with fellow fans.
i haven't gotten the dvds, but over the years i've collected all 27 episodes on vhs, and i must say, the treasure hunt was really fun. i went to the most obscure sites and sellers, who were online, but i managed to do it.

enjoy your set of dvds....and please come back and converse among all us lowly, but proud, staccato lovers. it seems we are a rare breed these days.

A Piece of Paradise, directed by Cassavetes, is excellent. One of the best.
