Warner Archive Instant

They had a number of shows available in their subscription internet library for the last year, but now they have removed them.

Why??!! Dumb move.

they put up about half of the total run of the series - don't know why they didn't put up all of the episodes; just fyi - on the WA homepage they usually have a list of the shows they will be removing, so you at least get a little warning before they are gone - I was hoping that one they were removed they might be finally released on dvd but that doesn't seem the case - wish they would let us know why they haven't put them out yet - I watched all the Sunset Strip and Surfside Six eps as well

I corresponded with senior executives at Warner Brothers to get more information.

Apparently, at the time these trendy hit detective shows (Hawaiian Eye, 77 Sunset Strip and Surfside 6) originally aired, they had a number of musical soundtracks as part of the audio content of the show. That is why for all these series, you see only a portion of the shows available that WB is able to put up on their site. The ones that are not there contain songs/music copyrights that now legally belong to other companies. So they can't broadcast those shows without owning the audio content on them as well.

That said, WB still does not properly manage their product content correctly on the streaming site. Last Fall, Both Hawaiian Eye and 77 Sunset Strip were listed under their category "Most Popular Shows" when you browsed their web service (and there were only a handful of shows total listed as the most popular). Then a couple of months later, both of these shows were removed from their subscription service (??????). So the most popular TV shows that would be an incentive for customers to remain subscribed were removed from the service.

This is tantamount to a baseball team telling its star pitcher to sit down for the season as we are going to try out inferior pitchers, or Green Bay telling Aaron Rodgers to sit down as they want to start using their no. 2 quarterback instead. Or CBS TV pulling Big Bang Theory off the air for no reason.

Unbelievably lame move.
