This was one of the best cop shows of all time. Serious stuff and what a great actor in the lead role. The theme music has stayed with me since I was a child, as has the image of all the pistols lined up. I would buy every episode if released on DVD. Aussie fan.

I've never seen the half hour shows, but the I've got 28 of the 30 episodes of the hour long final series with Adam(Batman)West and Mark(Lost in space)Goddard as co-stars to Robert Taylor.
These final season shows are currently being screened in the UK on the Performance channel twice a day. They are showing a lot of the "4 star production" company product from the 50s and 60s it seems-"Dante" and "Hey Jeannie" have had showings,"The June Allyson show" is running along with "The Detectives" right now.I hope to catch the 2 episodes I'm missing from the run of the episodes of "The Detectives" on Performance.
Wonder if they'll dig out "Target the corruptors" and "Burke's law"?

It's an alright show. But it pale in comparisons of other crime dramas of that time such as The Untouchables, M-Squad, Lawless Years.

We can DO IT ALLLL DAY LONG, (We'll have to pay more for the light bill if we do it at night!)

"M Squad" doesn't come close to "The Detectives', It's o.k., and I enjoyed watching it, but most episodes of "The Detectives" have more suspense and better guest stars than "M Squad". Just MHO :).

I know The Detectives from the hour longs only as well, and they are excellent. It was (at least in that incarnation) a very well written and acted show, as much a dramatic series as a "cop show". It wasn't at all like Naked City and yet like that show if focused as much on the personalities of the characters, whether regulars or guest players, as on crime. Lots of offbeat, funky and sometimes scary (as in mentally unbalanced) bad guys. The show deserves more respect. I wish they'd rerun it on one of the digital channels but they seem to steer clear of Four Star shows that aren't westerns.
