Little Joe's mother was a hooker

After having seen most episodes of the 13 seasons I finally saw S.1 E. 24 where we find out Little Joe's mother in the Big Easy was a hooker. Thoughts?

reply

She appeared once, in S4 E20.
My thought is that there would have been less social stigma around the occupation of "saloon girl" in that time and place. It was just a reality of settlements in the old west.

I believe that Adam made a comment about that in the pilot episode and Little Joe told him if they weren't brothers he would have killed him for what he said.

reply

Yes, exactly. Little Joe didn't accept it.

Honest question: was a "saloon girl" automatically a hooker, or was she a hostess or bar maid of some sort that flirted with men and maybe even danced with them to get them buy drinks, or maybe just window dressing (like Hooters girls) to bring in the men?

reply

There seemed to be different levels of "saloon girl". Some just served drinks and danced with the men. Others went further. Many of them lived above the saloon, so that lended itself to the latter.

Just being labeled a "saloon girl" made many people think the worst.

I am re-watching episodes as they come up on Me-TV, and many of them mention "Saloon Girls". In "Little Girl Lost", her Mom is one, but swears she only dances and serves drinks.

I just find it hard to imagine Ben consorting with whores or B-girls. I suppose he was wilder in his younger days, although it would have been after the older brothers' mothers.
