Hoss helped deliver several babies on the show. The Indian woman who they met while camping. The tax collectors wife and his horse with the bonnet on it. then there was the wife of a man who didn't want to be with his wife anymore. Hoss also visited an ex-girlfriend of his, after she left him for another man and she died after the baby was born.
Did anyone else help deliver a baby on the show?
I don't recall if they did. I'll bet it's because Hoss' mother died giving birth to him. He probably feels guilty about that and wants to make sure that it doesn't happy to another mother and child.

Adam's mother died after he was born, and Hoss's was killed in an Indian attack while they were moving west.
But out of all the Cartwrights, I think he was the best to share the spotlight with a bundle of joy
They also could have been playing with the image of a big man like Hoss with a tiny baby in his arms.
