In Bonanza and just about every Western show have ever watched there is "poison water" in the desert. What was making it poison?
shareI've seen an episode of Survivor man where Les was talking about not drinking water in the desert. Since other animals/insects use it to drink and defecate in it. Who knows what dangerous microbes are living in it.
shareI remember an episode of Bonanza where someone was poisoning the water. It was season two "The Mission." They were doing it to stop them (Hoss and the Army) from fulfilling their mission.

have an answer to my own question. I read that water can be highly alkaline in the desert and it can kill you.
I learned about criminals "poisoning the water hole" from watching Toy Story! Famous line of Woody's.
There are several causes:
1) "Someone poisoned the water hole"
2) Standing water with bacteria, malaria, etc.
3) High Alkaline as mentioned by another post here
4) Bacteria & feces from other animals, as mentioned here
