Is there any hope for a decent DVD release?

Do any of the original elements exist for a decent transfer to DVD? Everything on YouTube and DVD-R is such pitiful quality.

Doubtful, alot of these shows are forgotten unfortunately. Much better chances of a more well known one getting an official release

It probably exists, but the chances of it being released on DVD are roughly equal to those of Profiles in Courage, Slattery's People, The Great Adventure, Bus Stop, East Side/West Side, or (to cite shows more similar to Adventures in Paradise) Follow The Sun or Hawaiian Eye. In short, slim to none.
Don't weep too hard. I just found the BBC has destroyed the original copy of Search For The Nile.

BBC destroyed thousands of hours of footage so they could reuse the master tapes. They lost millions of dollars of possible dvd sales through this. Dr Who, Z-Cars and more lost to save a few bucks.

I put that question to James Rosin, the author of an excellent book on the series. He replied that the story that he's heard is that the big obstacle to such a release is that the series was jointly owned by 20th Century-Fox, James Michener, and Martin Manulis. The latter two are now deceased, raising legal questions about the series' ownership that would have to be resolved before a DVD release.

Thanks for this update. What a shame. Warners must be making a few bob with their decent reissues of their TV westerns (they continue to release more), so I would have thought someone in 20th Century Fox would have the acumen to sort something out. Surely it would be easy to make a deal with the relevant estates; after all they're getting nothing from residuals now, and in another ten years or so they'll have no value as us baby boomer fans will be few and far between! Come on 20th CF - give it a go!
