By running three stories at once this film ends up 2:42. More so it was down right boring at times. I found the story of Diselt to be quite compelling and think had the film focused on just his story ... and in tern shortened by about 45 minutes ... this could have been a very good film. As it is 6/10.

shareEdward Dmytryk was a great director, but this film is irregular,
he doesn't makes good war films, watch " Anzio " for example.
This movie, for many reasons, reminds me to "From here to eternity",
but it's IMHO clearly a worst movie.
Yeah, the Diestl (Brando) story was the most compelling of the three, by far. They perhaps should've truncated the two American stories (featuring Martin and Clift), but I'm fine with the film as is and it was a hit at the box office.
