Are movies supposed to have any correlation with reality?

Was there ever a German soldier during WWII who was such a sensitive, noble soul as the Brando character? How many I wonder?

This is a prime example of why I don't take 99% of movies seriously: on the surface, they same plausible enough, but upon any reflection, you realize that they are wildly removed from the real world.

I have no idea if you are trying to be sarcastic or not?

What seems sarcastic about my post?

You're actually wondering if any German soldier had basic human emotions during WW2?

If you'll read my post a little more closely, think a bit more about how the Brando character behaved in the movie, and exercise a bit more intellectual energy, then hopefully you should be able to realize that my post in no way suggested that I believe that no German soldiers had basic human emotions during WW2.

Sure sounded that way ...

There were, and plenty. But several were executed for treason when found out. Others escaped to turn themselves prisoners to the Allies. I can give you one name: West German writer Heinrich Boll, who was a sergeant in the Wehrmacht and wrote several novels after the war attacking nazism and the war in general. He was awarded the Nobel Literature Prize of 1972 in his fifties.

There was an SS leader that raised chickens before he met Hitler.

I forget his name though. I'll bet he was a nice guy.

Himmler. I heard he was a riot.
