Windjammer - Music

Does anyone know if the musical score from this movie can still be purchased. I have the original vinyl record but it is in a sad state. Can a CD or tape be bought for this? Thanks.

Unfortunately, I can't answer your question but I have a similar question about the VHS tape of the movie. Do you know of anywhere or anyway to locate a copy of the actual movie? Thanks!

Since my original posting some while ago regarding having copied the LP to CD you would all be surprised how many requests for copies I have received!

The record compies have missed out on a choice opportunity here!

The LP runs 39:39 -give or take a few seconds. I have transferred the stereo sections in their true full stereo from the stereo LP and taken the monaural source cues from the mono LP.

I kept one "electronically re-channelled" mono cue in the mix just to illustrate the difference.

I suppose both mono and stereo versions of the LP could be put onto the same CD, but I prefer to fill out the rest of the running time with cuts from equally hard to find soundtracks like Maracaibo, or The Mountain.

Unfortunately, I don't think this soundtrack is available on tape or CD. I do have it on LP and it is in good condition, so I could always tape it for you and then mail you the tape (I'd like to keep my copy - good music)... If you're interested, let me know.

Hi,
I have been looking for the Windjammer music also. I would be very happy to pay you for making a cassette or a CD of Windjammer's music. Please let me know how you'd like to proceed.

Just to make things more interesting, I have both versions of the vinyl LP (mono and stereo -despite what the label says, it IS true stereo; only the source music was recorded mono) and have copied them onto CD.

The records were in excellent condition, so there is very little surface noise to mar this rousing and wonderful nautical score. I can't imagine why some lable (like FSM) hasn't rescued this gem and put it on CD commercially.

Is there any way I could get a copy of the CD from you? The soundtrack has a lot of sentimental value to me. I never saw the movie but my Dad had the soundtrack, my parents picked my name from one of the songs, 'Kari'. I still remember what the cover looked like though it fell apart a long time ago. Two girls in striped dresses sitting on a rock waving to a ship off in the distance. I lost the record when I moved eight years ago, it was long distance so I never had a chanse of getting it back. I even remember visiting the ship when I was young when it came to Washington D.C., my Dad still has the pictures. So If there is any way you could send me a copy that would be great!

As another lover of the music, is it possible to get a copy as it does not seem to be available commercially? It was always a pleasure to listen to my album--what a long time ago that was.

reply

Sure. Drop me a line at [email protected] and we can discuss the details.

Just wanted to post that I just now received the Windjammer CD from Jim ([email protected]), and it's just AWESOME!
Sure it's not like a crystal clear studio recording (since it's from an LP), but that's actually how I remember hearing it anyway! ;-)
I think it's just GREAT!
Great job Jim! :-)
(...and what very nice penmanship you have!)
You have been extremely helpful.
Thanks for the extra info as well!

Listening to this CD has made me realize how much fun music and singing is!
It's the same feeling I had as a child listening to the songs on this album.

Thanks for the memories Jim!

Hello bok602,
My name is Jan Benschop. I lived in Curacao when this film was made, and my older sister and brother went to Peter Stuyvezant college (high school) there. It was the students in that school who entertained the crew of the Christian Radich, and so my siblings can both be seen in the film. When my parents and I came to visit friends in the States in 1958, we went to a theatre in New Jersey where the screen had been built to show Cinemiracle movies, and we saw the film there.
Now, I am a folk singer and guitarist who opened for Peter, Paul & Mary, John Denver, and Barry Manilow, and have a CD of my own out, some of which music I wrote about Curacao. I am on CD Baby ( http://cdbaby.com/cd/benschop ), and I do gigs up and down the East Coast. I am in Florida right now, and am trying to learn some of the songs from the movie. Also, I want to be able to send a copy to my siblings to surprise them.
How could I get a stereo copy either on CD or tape from you, how much would it cost, and how soon could you do it, if you can? Maybe I can send you a signed copy of my CD in exchange?

I was seven years old when my parents took me to see this movie. I don't remember much of the movie, but I've always loved the music. My parents bought the LP and I recorded it to cassette tape about 25 years ago. I love to play it as I drive across the wide open spaces of the Great Basin in the western U.S., even though the theme of the movie was nautical and sounded very "calypso." I play it along with the soundtrack from "Out of Africa" and "Dances with Wolves" as all three take me to isolated, wide open, scenic places in my mind. As I have lived and worked in such places for the past 30 years, the music gets played often.

I began a search for this music and was not initially coming up with any sucessful results, so I thought I would try IMDB and found this thread. I'm not surprised others also have interest in the great soundtrack. I've done a little more searching and found this:

It is a bit pricey, however, I paid nearly $60 for the soundtrack of the movie "Antartica" in 1986 so this price is not bad at all. Others may be interested in this source.
