I have seen the "remastered", as they insist, version of this absolutely stunning film at the oslo film festival.
The two guys running the restauration/remastering were present to give a speech about the processing, detailing to what length they had to go to recover this marvelous film with a budget that could well be looked at as peanuts.
I hope more work goes into some restauration work, as hopefully the dvd version that is prone to come out will see some sales.
The remastering is very very good, and as stated in one of the comments you can only go about and chuckle at some of the 50s-innocence dialogs.
A great great thanks to all involved in the renovation of this brilliant movie!

Goettschwan,
Was this the showing on Sunday 2 May 2010?
Apparently the King of Norway was invited. Do you know if he attended?
Apparently he attended the original Norwegian premiere back in April 1958.
I suppose he would be quite old now?

Apparently there are two versions of this restoration:

1. The Letter-Box Version

2. The Smile-Box version.

The Smile-Box version simulates the curved Cinemiracle/Cinerama screen and
is butterfly shaped.

Do you know which version was shown at the Oslo 70MM Film festival?
How wide was the screen?

Wow, didn't see this in time.
No, this was the showing of 8/5, the second showing in the festival.
I do not know if the king attended, but the king is not young, no.
The concept of smilebox was explained in a speech by the guys that did the mastering.
It allows the impression of a "curved" e.g. 180degree screen as present in the original showing (they customized the Colosseum Cinema in Oslo for this movie, and if I remember correctly it showed there for nine months straight)
This effect will show as smilebox on a normal screen, while it will show correctly on a self-built 180 degree screen, thus allowing the original screening.

I am unsure now about the version they showed, it has been some time.
"How wide was the screen", it was a flat non curved cinema screen of normal proportions for modern cinemas. I do not know more exact details for that.
