UK a pushover...?

Were the little kingdoms in the UK just easy pickings for the vikings? In the modern day TV show and in this movie the Vikings seem to have little trouble attacking and taking over villages with only a couple of boats full of men.

There was no such thing as a "UK" until 1800.
