I know they shouldn't, but...

This movie is pretty much perfect, and I don't think it needs to be remade (just re-released), but I just cannot resist thinking about a remake. What would you say to...

Einar: Sean Bean
Eric: Hugh Jackman
Ragnar: Sean Connery (obviously)
Morgana: Keira Knightly? (seems too obvious...)
Aella: Alan Rickman
Lord Egbert: Ewan McGregor
Queen Enid: Jamie Leigh Curtis (seeing as her parents starred in th'original, but that Morgana is just out of her 'teens)

Then again, if it were remade with this cast, I'd go see it, but I wouldn't stop watching th'original.

The Vikings is definitely a movie that could and should be remade. The original is good but, since it was made in the 50's, lacks the realism that a quality director and film crew could bring. I like the idea of Jamie Lee Curtis somehow finding her way into the cast. Some other names that could be included are Colin Ferrell and Clive Owen. I think that if the movie is remade, some shots should be included, like the Kirk Douglas skipping across the oars part, and the scene where Douglas is eventually killed.

Realism like 21st century tattoos and CGI instead of actual fjords, castles, and ships.

I'm in agreement that this movie should be remade. A teacher of mine showed it to our class when I was in seventh grade and I've loved it ever since. And if they remade it, I would watch both.

The casting toneill suggested is really good. But I don’t think that Sean Bean and Hugh Jackman are of similar enough age to play Einar and Eric (I believe they're about 10 years apart age-wise, in real life). As someone else mentioned, Clive Owen would be good as Eric. Those two seem to be more of a similar age. And although I practically worship Sean Connery, it seems like he would be too old to play Ragnar at the beginning of the film...maybe Brendan Gleeson or Brian Cox as Ragnar? Then again, the former isn't much older than Sean Bean...but it's Hollywood, so maybe that doesn't matter :D

My opinionated two cents.

Interesting you made the comment that Sean and Hugh are about 10 yrs apart in age in real life so you didn't think they were of similar enough age yet Kirk Douglas was 9 yrs older than Tony Curtis in Real Life and they seemed to work as brothers of similar age. But I guess some can be far apart in age yet look close in age.

Sean Bean as Einar, brilliant!

Sean Bean would be great as Einar and Alan Rickman as Aella.

I think Sean Bean might work. But I disagree that a remake would work. This must be one of the most fun un-PC movies of all times. How do you suggest this would work nowadays? I think the remake would just end up lame.

simple: say "F it" to being politically correct and just make a good movie. no good movie ever came about as a result of playing it safe.

This is 2010. You can't say "F it" to politically correct. The PC thought police will get you and make you take a sensitivity training.
