Soundtrack.

My dad said that when he and his friends saw this for the first time way back in the fifties when he was a teenager, they'd walk along the streets together and chant the tune.
I was wondering if anyone knew where to get the soundtrack, because I'd really, really like to get him it.

The DRG CD release -composer authorised and supervised- is an overpriced disappointment if you pay anything more than $10 for it. The sound is the flattest possible monaural, extremely muddy and sounds as though it were recorded in a broom closet.

I own both the original-issue United Artists UAL 40003 Lp with the gatefold sleeve and very dramatic cover art as well as the later UAS 5003 Lp with the bland blue standard sleeve.

UAL 40003 was released in standard monaural sound.
UAS 5003 claims to be in stereo but is, in fact, "electronically re-processed" fake stereo.

The CD I made my transfer from is of the naturally balanced monaural UAL 40003 LP, which has the best overall sound.

I do actually own several of the composer's authorized CDs of his scores but the fake stereo re-channelling and exceptionally muddy audio quality are atrocious. As a previous poster on IMDb stated, they literally do sound as though they were recorded from another room behind a closed door.

I am not aware of a true stereo release of this soundtrack.

Perversely, neither LP includes track titles of any kind -not even numbers.

I've taken my monaural LP and copied it to CD and the sound is infinitely better than than the commercial CD. The CD transfer of the complete LP runs 35 minutes.

When you mention stereo sound, it makes me wonder why this film doesn't have a stereo mixed soundtrack. Was it originally released in stereo? The same is true of another Technirama
film, The Big Country. Anyone know why?
