Burning and sinking ship in film
The supposedly sinking sailing ship shown in this film 'Twilight for the Gods' was owned by Ernest K Gann (who wrote the screenplay). It was later sold and became a sailing school ship and in May 1961 was lost in a white squall west of the Dry Tortugas. This sinking with loss of life of some of the student crew was the basis for the 1996 film 'White Squall', starring Jeff Bridges, which depicted the 1961 tragedy at sea.
