Kang and Kodos?

I've always wondered if the Kang and Kodos characters from "The Simpsons" were based on the monsters from "The Crawling Eye." Anyone?

reply

They could have been. Maybe "The Crawling Eye" got lodged in the memory of one of the "Simpsons" creators?

reply

I think you'll find that the alien creature in the 1959 scifi flick "Atomic Submarine" is an almost exact model for Kang and Kodos, even down to the voice.

reply

Yes, it seems reasonable that the Atomic Submarine alien was probably their model.

reply

Thanks! Now I can't wait to see "Atomic Submarine" !

reply

Nah, I think they're just generic "slime creatures from outer space" types they came up with for the first THoT.

Wasn't Kang or Kodos originally just James Earle Jones? And since they couldn't get him for all the episodes that featured the characters they eventually gave them new ones?

I actually own Atomic Submarine(a Criterion Edition surprisingly) but have yet to check it out yet. If they really do sound like the simpsons characters thats going to be a hoot to watch.
