The Cane ( spoiler-ish)

So it's been probably 20 years since I last watched this movie, but I recall each time I watched thinking it's implied that Welles' cane is hollow. I'm not the only one, right? There's a scene where his loyal assistant is listing all the pieces of evidence that Welles found and used to crack the case, and everything he lists is a thin, cylindrical object that would fit into a cane. I think it's a brilliant bit of inference, and I appreciate Welles resisting the urge to spell it out or have the cane revealed to be hollow at the end.
