for a role in this film. I guess it would have been the part of his brother played by his son James. Honestly I didn't care for this film but it would've been great for Presley to at least co-star with an A list actor for a change in this cult classic.

if he had it would have been Elvis's best film and role. The colonel probably didn't want the Elvis image tarnished up by moonshine.

Elvis wanted the role but the colonel asked for too much money. Too bad Elvis would've been perfect for the role of the mechanic brother. It would've been a supporting role but it still would've been great to see Robert Mitchum & Elvis in a film together. I'd rather see Elvis in a good supporting role than a bad lead role.
