Joby (the son) was gay

I thought the son , Joby, came off gay. He liked music, had this sardonic wit, and seemed like he knew he didn't fit with the rest of the world. The scene where he's drunk, he comes off very gay.
Then I found out the actor who played, Ray Stricklyn, him WAS gay. I should always trust my gay-dar.

Really? I didn't get that at all. Maybe the actor was gay, but I didn't get that from the character. Anna's husband liked music & he definetly wasn't gay, and having a sardonic wit doesn't seem gay to me either....But I could be wrong - there's been several old movies I've watched & come here to look them up only to find many discussions about gay characters in them that I completely missed, lol. So who knows?!

He was not gay in O'Hara's novel, although there was mild speculation by one of his father's friends that he might be. I did not see him as gay in the movie either.

But being straight I don't think I am the best person to know if someone is gay. Perhpas the poster is off that persuasion, and therefore has a better sense for it.

What the hell does that have to do with the story? Not a thing. Nobody cares.
