Inaccurate title

Since Robert Vaughn was 25 or even 26 years old when he played the lead role in this movie, shouldn't its title be not "Teenage Cave Man" but rather "20-Something Cave Man?"

To borow from a long-running commercial he does the voice-over for "He means business!!"

I wasn't too surprised to find out that it originally had a different title. Calling it Teenage Cave Man probably helped to sell a few more tickets during the teen exploitation craze of the 50s, but I also think it hurts audience perception of the film a little as well. Don't get me wrong, it's no Quest for Fire, but I do think that it would crack the 3.0 mark if it had been given its original title. Once you call it Teen Caveman, the viewer is pretty much going into the film disinterested.

reply

True, the film's title is inaccurate, but the sad part is this detracts from the scrupulous accuracy of the rest of the movie.

The late 50's had a rash of "teenage" movies. Teenage Werewolf, Frankenstein and Teenager's from Outer Space. None of the main characters were actors in their teens at the time. Steve McQueen was 28 in The Blob when he was supposed to be a teenager.

Scores of actresses are playing teens/college age "girls" today who are nearly pushing 40. They must have Good Bones or something, 'cause they look pretty sweet.
Hell, Anna Hendricks will be 57 and she'll still be singing in that damn A cappella Group!

I don't really mind, because now I can look at a Freshman at Movie College, and not feel gross if I think she's hot -- she's 34!
