the king

i was flipping channels and caught this classic on tv just now. i changed it quick, however as soon as the face of my beloved "king" appeared on screen i changed it back. i've seen about 5 minutes of film. he hasn't said a word, and yet his acting is more fenomenal than most renoun physical comics! he can grab you, mesmorise you with just one look and transmit a pallet of emotions without ever looking ridiculous. that's why he will always be the major star that ever lived!

Gable was truly a Movie STAR

Yes and so was Doris Day.
She's great in The Man Who Knew Too Much, is you haven't seen it.

There's only one Clark Cable. I've always considered him one of the greatest leading men. Watching this film raises Doris Day in my esteem. She surprised me especially in the scene previously mentioned where she got weak in the knees. She deserves more credit than I've given her. I must admit I've enjoyed many of her films including The Man Who Knew Too Much. This film far exceeded my expectations.

With one flick of an eyebrow, or a single muscle in his upper lip moving, you got more acting and emotion from him than anyone else on the screen.

Brilliant man. I'm so old, I remember when he died -- even though I was only a child at the time, it was all the talk by my parents for days. i've had a crush on him for decades.

In this film, I always love the way Doris Day nearly collapses (after Gable leaves the room) after being kissed by Gable in her office. And yes, Day is a much better actor than she is usually given credit for. You mentioned The Man Who Knew Too Much; and if you liked that dramatic performance, then you should try to catch her in Midnight Lace, which is a bit like Gaslight.

Gable had star power. But he was at least 20 years too old for this part. His best role in this stage of life was The Misfit's.
