painful balcony scene

Just watched the balcony scene on TCM. Strasberg is an enigma to me. A product of the Actor's Studio, practically biologically, she has a very weird *method* (hehe) of delivering Juliet's lines.

That droning voice, the absence of any energy. No semblance of a 16 yr old girl. How the HECK (apart from nepotism) did this little mouse of a woman manage to get and keep an acting career?

I find her entire performance in this film to be painful. Overall, I think the film is WAY too melodramatic, and there's far too much scenery-chewing going on.

Agree with the 'melodramatic'. If they toned that back it would have been a much better movie.

But the scenery-chewing is nowhere near as bad as "Morning Glory".

Are you going to pull those pistols or whistle "Dixie"?

She speaks (at least in this movie) as if she had been struck with a tranquilizer dart: the Rebecca Pidgeon School of Acting.
