Love this film

One thing I love about this film is the all star African American cast. I was pleased when I found out the era when it was produced. Well obviously we all know it was the 1950's. When I first saw it on AMC or TCM, I missed the first 30 minutes and but then saw the complete film when it was shown again a few days later. Not only were there famous actors/entertainers, I saw other actors in the film I recognized from television shows of that era.

I too am a HUGE fan of this movie as well. I love the cast as well as the wonderful music.I find myself singing some of the more "bluesy" tunes as well as "Will there be a Morning Star" that Cole sings as he makes the pivotal decision to become a musician and not someone who plays music. Eartha Kitt is just dynamic and I just cant say enough it is truly among my top ten favorites of all times.

I mised more than half of this, but what a great movie. You can't go wrong with Nate, Ella, Eartha and Mahaila. Some of the greatest musical talents ever.
Of course Ruby Dee was excellent as always and Pearl Baily was comical as well as musically talented.

I too, loved this film. What an all-star cast. It was just a great film. Filmed in B&W, it has a great feel to it. Nat was the man. What a velvet voice. If you get a chance to catch this on TCM or whatever, watch it. An unknown and forgotten gem.
