Did Ginny Jump in Front of the Bullet

Did Ginny sacrifice herself for Frank Sinatra's character? I couldn't tell...she loved him that much?[spoiler]

reply

Yes she did. Although it wasn't originally written that way. Sinatra's character, Dave, was supposed to have been killed, but he thought it would be more poignant for Ginnie to die. And that doing so would add to the wonderful work that Shirley MacLaine done here. It clearly worked as she was one of the film's three Oscar-nominated actors, along with Martha Hyer and Arthur Kennedy.

No, I think she was reacting to his being shot. I don't think she intentionally jumped in front of bullets to save him or for any other reason. After the shot was fired he dropped to the ground. She would have assumed that he had been fatally wounded.

...she loved him that much?
Whatever she might have felt for Dave, I don't think it was love; at least I wouldn't consider it love. 'Meal ticket' or sucker might be a better term for how she saw him. I think she was looking out for herself. Dave seemed like a nice enough guy who treated her better than anything else she had been able to latch on to before. She took advantage of his vulnerability and moved in for the kill.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]
