Ginny didn't take a bullet for Dave either. If that's what Minnelli was trying to show he didn't do a very good job of it. It looked to me like she was trying to avoid getting shot herself. Dave was already hit and on the ground. She saw him but wasn't focused on him. If she was trying to shield him, I would expect she would have gone to him immediately. She didn't. If her 'boyfriend' was trying to shoot Dave he was also aiming in the wrong direction and angle.
