I just saw this for the first time!

It was fantastic! Peter was chilling and the ending was perfection!

The ending was the best part, but come on...the girl would have been a murderer, too.

Nothing is more beautiful than nothing.

reply

Yes that was bothering me but at least she did stop and tell the Inspector....

I would have graded the film as excellent, based upon the Hitchcock endiing, if she hadn't stopped at the police station. A little too cop-outish. Very good, nonetheless.

I have just seen it for the last time.

Nothing is more beautiful than nothing.

Why for the last time? If it's ok to ask....

seeing it once is all I need.

Nothing is more beautiful than nothing.

Agree - the ending would have been great if she hadn't stopped to notify the police.

I personally wouldn't say "fantastic" or "perfection," but I did enjoy this film and I did find it to be nifty and engaging.

I was surprised when she stopped off at the police station - I expected the film to end as they drove away from the villa. My guess is that it was a cop-out because of the attitudes of the time. Even though Paul was ultimately responsible for his own fate, it could be argued that as Candy knew he was there she is partly responsible as well and in 1957 it might not have been seen as correct to show a teenage girl in this light.

Personally, I would have been happy if she'd left him to it.

Re the poster who said they've seen it for the last time because they don't need to see it again - I understand where you're coming from; personally I like to keep these little gems to watch once more some time in the future but I do so knowing that I won't ever again experience that delicious thrill of seeing a clever ending like this, happening for the first time.

I thought this film was merely passable. I found it too slow and talky, although well acted and competently executed. The conclusion had some nice ironic touches to it, but the coda at the very end was extremely limp and dissatisfying. 6 out of 10 from me.
