oh c'mon a 2.8 average?

I mean really, this movie was no masterpiece but it had some genuine creepy moments with a touch of psychology horror. Plus personally I think there is something inherently spooky about staying in a large empty mansion with no furniture, etc. A simple story that kept me guessing a little and it didn't try to be anything else than a creepy horror movie. Decent acting and no lame attempts at comedy, etc. I give it a 2 stars (which translates into a 6/10 according to how I do my ratings.) Save the 1, 2 or 3 out of 10 for really bad movies like "Creature from the Haunted Sea" by Roger Corman. That movie was God-awful!

Neuronboy,
I agree.
TSS does have some very creepy scenes in it, with a splash of psychological horror added into the mix!!

I gave this movie an 8. It was a little rough in spots, a little slow in the beginning, and some of the props looked like they were from K-Mart, but overall, I thought it was pretty good. The music and the cinematography were above average.

I think the low average rating has to do with the herd mentality of Mystery Science Theater 3000 fans.

I know! I'm so tired of people padding the ratings. Death to upvoting sockpuppets and shills!

It's far from perfect, but the script was pretty good. The acting wasn't that great, but it was good enough to tell the story. The location used was good as well. I think this could have been a genuinely loved classic film up there with The Uninvited had it had a better cast and a better director. Again, it was adequately acted and directed, but it was screaming (no pun intended) for more experience behind the camera.

It's better than the low rating.

I am not a fan. I just happen to enjoy movies. Fans are embarrassing.

It deserves a better rating. The movie was good.

After 8 years, the feeling still seems to be unanimous..... at least on this thread! I liked it and I still do. Just watched it again last night.
The OP is right. This isn't a masterpiece. It isn't even the most frightening movie I have ever seen, but it is spooky and great fun to watch with the lights out.
