'The Enemy Below' is better

Despite being vastly different films, these are the best submarine movies from that time period, with Run Silent Run Deep enjoying a bit more popularity.

I prefer Powell's film, however, the cunning game of cat-and-mouse between Mitchum and Jurgens more compelling than what this movie offers.

Anybody else think so?

I like "Run Silent, Run Deep" better for the realistic production values (great special effects and cinematography) but "The Enemy Below" for performances (Robert Mitchum, Theodore Bikel and, particularly, Kurt Jurgens). I also think "Topedo Run" is a fine submarine film, just a touch below these two.

Another good old submarine film is "Hell Below," which I happened to catch on TCM last year. Don't know if you get TCM, but if it is shown again, try to see it, it is a hoot of a sub flick. Old school, but still enjoyable 3/4 of a century later!
