The Curse Of Dracula !

I have to admit my favorite Vampire is still Bela Lugosi,
but I must also admit that Francis Lederer scared the living S--t
out of me with this one! I first saw this flick when I was probably
nine or ten years of age. I would wet the bed because my parents wanted
all of the lights out, no hall light was left on, and I was afraid that
I would see his face illuminated in the hall outside of my room!
The music alone will scare the crap out of you. I'm 48 now and I bought
this movie on VHS about twelve years ago I guess. It was on a Saturday
and it was about 2:20p.m. I had stopped to get something to eat and
figured I'd sat back and watch this as an adult, thinking that I'd be
laughing at how dated this movie is, and how embarassed I'd be for ever
having been afraid of this as a kid! Guess what? It still scared the energy
out of me! That old familiar music started the silhouette, the candles and
those creepy eyes of the silhouette in the overcoat and fidora hat.
I would love to have it on DVD, but I only watch this flick with company.
Francis Lederer died in 2000, I think he was 102 years old...well at least 100!

I totally agree. I admit seeing this film when I was probably in the third grade and being scared to death. Unfortunately, I fell asleep before the end of the movie (CHILLER, the show that ran between 10:00 PM & midnight on Saturday hosted this movie) and had to depend on my older sister's retelling of the events. I bought this movie on DVD with THE VAMPIRE on the other side. And it still was pretty spooky especially with the DIES IRAE music going on in the background. And when Jenny was staked, it was really kicking into high. I like this movie. Certainly it is not the DRACULA with Bela Lugosi, but it wasn't intended to be that. It reflected the US of the 1950's, not London of the 1930's. It's a wonderful diversion for little over and hour. I rather enjoyed Francis Lederer's portrayal as well as the acting of the supporting cast. m12merc, keep up the perusal of the 1950's sci-fi and horror. It's fun stuff!

The Curse of Dracula/The Return of Dracula is on dvd!
I have it and only watch it with company. The Music gets me still!
Also the shots of certain scenes are still as creepy as ever.
This movie was actually made the year I was born. I was born
in January and I believe this movie was done in February of 1958.
Horror movies really don't scare me, but this one is my Kryptonite!
I'm still waiting for Curse of the Undead to be released on dvd, but I
have a feeling this film will never see a dvd release.
Francis Lederer died in 2000...he was 101 years old and taught right
up until his death. I read that someone asked him what was his secret
to longevity? And his reply was...to live a long time!

I wonder why the charged the title for TV

reply

In the days before cable and home VHS/DVD they would re released the movies over and over again- By changing the title people would not realize that they were paying to see a movie that was on TV a couple of weeks ago- They would of course sometimes also change the names of the movies that got re released to the theaters. I have heard that the film company INDEPENDENT INTERNATIONAL would have movies playing in theaters and on TV at the same time and they would have different titles for them.
