perfect movie for a modern-day remake

This would be a great movie for a remake. Hollywood's remake record has been hit or miss, but I feel this movie would be perfect for a big screen big budget upgrade. One good approach would be to play-up the 1950's camp style. Sort of what they did with the Austin Powers movies making fun of the 60s.

Who would be some good modern actresses for the title role?

reply

I don't know if a remake would ever top it. The low rent effects and campiness are part of the charm and I don't think can be improved by CGI or taking it serious since this style of filmmaking is alien to the post Dark Knight/Avatar crowd.

As for who could play the queen I don't know. I doubt many actresses now would want to play a disfigured role or stay hidden beneath a mask for a whole film. But who knows. Meryl Streep as the Queen might be fun.

Thanks for the reply. It has occurred to me that "playing-up" the "1950's camp-style sci-fi element" might be a good approach for the film. The same way the Austin Powers movies made fun of the '60s.

I'd like to see a remake but you just know that nobody directing today could match the B movie fun of this film. It would probably just come out either bad or too over the top. Plus, where are they going to find another aging Hungarian ex-beauty pageant winner to play the lead.

With a title like Queen of Outer Space, the answer is obvious. Camp it up even more with a Drag Queen, i.e. Akihiro Miwa. Apparently, he's still camping it up in his 70's. S/he was gorgeous.

Heck, use a bunch of drag queens and turn the movie 180 degrees. Instead of being space sex romp aimed at teenaged boys, the transgender element is sure to make a few of them uncomfortable.

Here he is playing the title super villainess in the 1969 camp classic, Black Lizard

I think it should be left in it's own little unique niche because it's worth it.

They have done a remake of this movie. The remake is "Amazon Women on the Moon".

reply

That was a parody of it, not a remake. And the movie's more than 25 years old now, which is a lifetime for a lot of people who post here.

I agree. Something this awesome/stupid should be reminded of. Just keep it as awesome and as stupid. I suggest Paris Hilton for the role of her great-great-step-mother had.

PS. Remake could have more female and male semi-nudity. And have these people be of more than one ethnicity and body built.

Heck no! Queen of Outer Space is perfect as it is. The movie wouldn't be what it is without Zsa Zsa. Instead of a remake, it should be released in theaters again. I would see it for sure!
