Zsa Zsa gone at 99

Is Queen of Outer Space Zsa Zsa Gabor's most famous -- or infamous -- movie?

I don't know, but we're saddened to hear of her passing on December 18, 2016, just 51 days shy of her 100th birthday. I was really hoping she'd make it to her century but it was not to be.

Zsa Zsa was older than almost everyone in the cast of this film yet outlived almost all of them. Without her, Queen of Outer Space wouldn't have been half as much fun as it is -- just another minor 50s sci-fi flick. Zsa Zsa elevated it to iconic status.

So, thanks for making this film more than it ever should have been, daaahhling.

Rest in peace...and while we're at it -- Bochino!

February 6, 1917 - December 18, 2016.

PS: Suppose there's some significance to the fact that Zsa Zsa died at 99? 

I just came across the news Ms. Gabor's passing this morning.

I agree fully with your comment---that without her presence in this movie, it would have quickly fallen to obscurity. Yet all these years later, it still remains iconic and fondly remembered by many fans.

I have often thought a modern-day remake of this movie would be a real hoot. Perhaps as a Broadway play (?)

You couldn't beat the original movie -- but a Broadway play? Actually, a musical? Now that's a great idea.

Seriously, if done right, it could be huge. But you'd have to choose the leading lady (and I don't meet the queen) very carefully.

reply

Correction--yes I actually meant to say "as a musical".

"Reefer Madness" and "Little Shop of Horrors" are examples of two low-budget movies, that successfully made it as Broadway musicals. And then morphed into major motion pictures. "Queen of Outer Space" would be perfect doing the same.

reply

Exactly, good examples. The film certainly provides enough outlandish ideas for sets, costumes and designs, not to mention its story, that a musical could easily be built on it.

A great film always thanks to Ms. Gabor with memorable lines. Sad she's gone. She was great on the Jack Paar & Tonight Shows & in Moulin Rouge.
