What is the relation of Szczuka and Malciek

There is a scene where Szczuka comes to an apartment to speak to a woman about Malciek. He seems to indicate that he is related to him. Is Malciek his son or what? I mean, that would add a new wrinkle to the story.

Szczuka is not asking about Maciek, he is asking about his son. Although I'm not sure if it is ever explicitly stated in the film, it is suggested that his son is the young man who was arrested and who claimed he was 100 years old.

Yes. Szcuzuka fathered a child with a Polish woman. For reasons unknown, the child was left with his mother in Poland while Szcuzuka went away. When the mother died, her sister (the woman in the apartment) raised the child against the wishes of Szczuka, who had wanted the child raised by his friends. However, Szczuka did not return to claim his son for years. In the mean time, the boy's aunt raised him to be a Polish patriot. As a result, the boy and Szczuka, his father, ended up on different sides of the post-war movement for Polish independence. Szczuka's son is, in fact, aligned with the people who are trying to kill his father. So though Machiek is not Szczuka's son, one of his fellow resistance members is.
