Ironic...

...that Spencer Tracy was an Irishman from Milwaukee and as American as Apple Pie but two of his most famous roles werre as hispanic fishermen.

Maybe Jose Ferrer or Ricardo Montalban would have been a truer choice, but I think that Tracy was very good.

Anthony Quinn was an excellent choice for the TV remake -- that man could play any ethnic type. The changes in the script betrayed that effort.

20 years later and it would have had to be Anthony Quinn. Even less of a question!

Not for one minute did I think I was looking at a Cuban fisherman. With all the hispanic actors to choose from, they picked Tracy? What about Gilbert Roland? What about Ramon Novarro? What about Arturo DeCordoba? These guys were all in their late 40s and 50s, former leading men.

And what about that arm wrestling scene? Tracy didn't even look like he was trying. Tracy was only in this movie to sell tickets.

Absurdity: A Statement or belief inconsistent with my opinion.

In Captains Courageous, Tracy is not hispanic, but portuguese. Portuguese people are not hispanic. And Portuguese people are quite similar to Irish people in some aspects.
