catch 22 and this film?

Watching this movie on TCM right now, and it seems like maybe Joseph Heller incorporated some of the characters and devices from this play into his seminal novel. Calling people "idiots", and battling generals, and a funeral.
Anybody think this might be true?

"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room!"

Yes, Obama is an idiot.

Mac Hyman's novel certainly reminds me of Catch-22 (I think the novel is better than the Ira Levin play version, or the movie). Another work which has a lot of common with Catch-22 is James B. Allardice's play At War With the Army (1949). Joseph Heller undoubtedly knew both of these works.

we're watching this in my school right now (i have no idea why) but for some reason it reminds of Catch-22

reply

Both movies feature the B-25 and the Air Force (or US Army Air Forces).

The best diplomat I know is a fully charged phaser bank.

reply

In Catch 22 it is the entire military that is crazy and idiotic.
