When will they do a remake?

I would love a proper remake of this film!

Now don't get me wrong, before people start having a go, I love and highly respect this version of the sinking. It deserves all the praise it gets.

I would like to see a longer remake now though with the more accurate sinking and break up theory, the highly detailed sets like in Cameron's version etc.

Its a shame nothing like this happened for the 100 anniversary which was what I had hoped for.

I do like Camerons version a lot as well, but its about time another movie was made which tells the REAL stories. Not the fictional ones. There's too many with fictional subplots floating around now... excuse the pun.

I don't think that they would make a remake of this movie. However, they may try to make another fact-based version about the sinking, as opposed to a fictional one, such as James Cameron's.

Just as James Cameron's movie isn't the only fictional movie version about the sinking, ANTR is not only fact-based version. SOS Titanic was also fact-based, so someone might decide to do another one.

Doubtful that will ever happen theatrically. Cameron's epic will dominate over all Titanic based films for several more years. Maybe done as a tv mini-series.

reply

Yea but I bet if they did remake this movie and it was as good or better than this one it would dominate the cameron movie. the only reason that camerons is so dominate is because it is the most recent motion picture version with special affects.

reply

No. Because it's one of the highest-grossing films of all time. That's why it will always be more prominent than any other version of the story.

They did a horrible TV miniseries in 2012 written by Mr. Downton Abbey. It was…the worst.

Even if they do a more factual film, it will never achieve the fame and fortune of the Cameron film.

OMG, was it ever. I borrowed the series from the library and had modest but positive expectations for it -- but it was beyond awful and I couldn't watch more than the first 2 episodes. Ghastly.

Cameron's film may, as you say, achieve more fame and fortune than any other on the topic for the foreseeable future, but that doesn't mean another excellent film on the Titanic can't or won't be made. Blockbusters are not necessarily the best films, although they are usually the most profitable. There are many excellent films not in the IMDB top 250.

A different TV series from 2012, Titanic: Blood and Steel was surprisingly good. It was a joint Irish-Italian production and focused on the building of the Titanic and historical background. It didn't get much airplay in the U.S. (I saw it on Blu-Ray), but although it's uneven in quality and takes some liberties with the chronology, it offers a brilliantly filmed look at the politics and social history of the time. Excellent sets and performances from many of the actors, and the cinematography was exceptionally well done for a TV series.

No one's saying anything about quality. Quality doesn't equal popularity. And what's been said already on this thread, comparisons will always be drawn…whether they make another Citizen Kane or not.

Uh, that's not true. *I* am talking about quality, and I believe the OP may have been, too. It goes without saying that quality and popularity are not conterminous; rather, they can overlap, like circles in a Venn diagram, or be quite separate.

Cameron's film may be the most "popular" for some time to come (though all predictions are fraught with peril). Regardless of that, other excellent films on the subject of Titanic can and probably will be made.

I really don't care what you're talking about. You've diverted the conversation.

So, there's a recap of where we are. Until you started naming all of the recent Titanic miniseries and docu-dramas and how good they are or aren't.

Bottom line. No matter how good a Titanic show or movie is...it will ALWAYS be compared to the Cameron film. And it will always live in Cameron's shadow.

Case closed.

You have an extremely short memory. The person who brought up and started naming "recent Titanic miniseries" was you. I merely replied to your observation (agreeing with you) and elaborated on it, naming exactly one additional miniseries (hardly "all the recent" blah blah blah). Exaggeration much?

Since you are clearly not interested in discussion, or even modest accuracy, you are right -- case closed.

There was another TV mini series that was released in the mid-late 90's just before the release of JCT. It was simply called Titanic and starred George C Scott and Tim Curry and that stank.

It had some elements of fact in it which centred around Alice Cleaver who was the Nurse for baby Trevor Allison who took Trevor to the lifeboats leaving the rest of the Allison family (Father, Mother and 3yo daughter) to their fate. The daughter, Lorainne, was the only child from 1st class NOT to survive the sinking.

You're also forgetting the power of Leo over the awakening hormones of young girls.

reply

DiCaprio wasn't the first to do that, and he won't be the last.

The poster who said that any version will live in the shadow of Cameron's version is talking through his hat. At least 'A Night To Remember' highlights the ship and its sinking. In Cameron's version it is almost a side issue, with everything being saved up for the fancy CGI finale, not to mention the portraying of certain characters in a bad light when there is evidence to the contrary. And what was all that nonsense about when an Irish steerage passenger used the word 'Limey'? Ah, of course, another nod to the American audience and its belief that the English are oppressive baddies while all Americans are of Irish descent. Yeah right.

reply

Hopefully never!!! We don't need another one.plus the 90s version with Dicaprio was so huge I doubt anything could top it.

reply

Hopefully never for me. It's already good.

I really get where you're coming from but the factual improvements really wouldn't be worth the effort and money.

reply

I totally agree.

It doesn't NEED to be remade, with a teenage "love interest" to bring in the fan girls.

ANTR tells the story of THE SHIP, and its doom...which is as it should be. It wasn't meant to be a 1912 version of "Luke and Laura"....

The acting was superb, and understated, which made the story even more poignant.

I do hope he won't upset Henry...
