Groundbreaking story element?

I always felt this film was as much an inspiration to Alien as It! the Terror from Beyond Space was in regards to the astronaut being 'impregnated' and hosting alien lifeforms.

Does anyone know if there was an earlier film with this story element?(and no, Invasion of the Body Snatchers doesn't count!!)

Despite all the bad reviews, I still think this is a cool little flick that might be more highly regarded if it had a better alien. While the 'paper mache parrot' and the poor ending have really given this flick a bad name, be assured that anything by Corman is at the least watchable!!

If anything I would say the story element that impressed me was the need to communicate with the creature instead of killing it on sight. Of course it turned out that it and its people didn't have our best interests in mind but still I appreciated the cerebral approach.

I am 100% positive that Alien ripped this off. A major clue is that just like in this movie, the guy who gets impregnated appears comatose/dead before coming back to life.
