Hanging scene - Kusturica was inspired by it?

A poor woman tries suicide by hanging only to break the wood that support the hanging rope. I think Emir Kusturica stole it for his Oscar nominee flick "Time of the Gypsies"/Dom za vešanje (1988). This 1988 movie got its name for that particular scene of unsuccessful hanging in a shed that falls apart - the shed, not the suicidee.
