On which true story is this based?

In the beginning of "Wet Asphalt" there is a statement that the film would be based on true events.
Was there really a reporter disguised as a prison guard trying to interview the war criminals in Spandau?

I watched "Nasser Asphalt" several times while living in Germany until 2002, but I never heard about such a story.
Would like to find out more if possible.
Will Tremper and Wikipedia unfortunately does not disclose it.

The international news story in 1951 was about the men who escaped from the bunker after six years. It was in Time magazine, June 25, 1951. Der Spiegel has an article about the legend and this movie, Wet Asphalt, in Jan. 29, 1958,

Try the search terms, Legend of Babie Doly.

The story inspired a stage play, "Die Legende von Babie Doly" by M.E. Hohoff, and a novel, The Blockhouse, by Jean-Paul Cleberg.

Another film was made in 1973, based on the novel. The Blockhouse starred Peter Sellers.
