Husband looked too old for wife - he is not young

In the movie they're described as a young couple, but he looks well into his 50s, while the wife just looks about 23 or 25.

He was far too old for her. It looks stupid. He looked old enough to be her father and he has grey hair at the side.

Oh and he's ugly too, and she is beautiful. Doesn't make sense.

I agree with the OP. He looked a lot older than mid 40s. And she looked way younger than 35.

They explain she was a small child when they knew each other, I don't think they explicitly said it but they implied he was older than she was.
