final scene

why couldn't he kill her when he had the chance, was it because she was a woman?

reply

I think that was it. Some reviews I read before watching it tipped that off. I think you might want to add spoiler alert, by the way.

and yet he killed the woman cop thinking it was the woman target. he made a big deal about a contract on a woman costing more, but not that he wouldnt do it. if anything, he seemed to hate women, not that he liked anyone all that much ;)

i think it was easier for him to assasinate a woman from far away through a sniper rifle than with his hands. maybe that's why he couldn't kill her. killing a woman with his hands was probably against his code or something.

yes, that's the only thing that explains his hesitation. i consider the whole "can't kill women" thing more of a gimmick really.

He didn't kill her 'cause it wasn't in the script. The entire movie is so full of holes that this is just one more in this cinematic credibility sieve.

I have to agree with you. The call girl coming to his room -- what purpose did that serve? His killing off Mark and George -- totally ludicrous! (Sure, they had orders to knock him off, but only because he chose not to fulfill the contract. And what does he do after doing away with both of them? Goes off to fulfill the contract!) And the ending -- pathetic! (Sure, if the guy who's about to strangle me from behind told me to keep playing that jaunty little piece on the piano, I be happy to comply.)

Sometimes I can't understand Hollywood. This film seems to start off having a lot of promise. It seems that for only a marginal bit more effort, they could have had a good, memorable work. And yet, somehow, they just didn't have the brains or the will or the interest to pull it off. And the result is forgettable fluff.

Think due to censorship it had to end that way

No. If Claude had killed her, there wouldn't have been a problem as long as he got caught or killed and didn't get away with it. Although her surviving means the man who hired Claude will probably be convicted.
