Point Conception Lighthouse

The lighthouse used in the movie is actually the Point Conception Lighthouse. Point Conception is the least accessible lighthouse in the Coast Guard inventory and only visited by appointment. Google maps has a nice aerial photo that can be zoomed. There are also several sites with nice photos. The remote location and spooky pictures I have seen taken from the sea side intrigued me so I located all the info I could find. I wound up with 2 Scaasis resin lighthouse models and a resin model kit of the monster standing on a rock holding a head. I also located a 16MM film print.
I wonder if the title came before the location because Piedras Blancas Lighthouse also exists. Maybe had the location dictated the title it would be Monster of Point Conception which doesn't sound too bad.

I had gotten a copy off Ebay and it one of was the cleanest prints I've seen on an Un-official release. It even had extras (Movie trailer, posters, lobby cards, pressbook, history (of the lighthouses) & bios (really filmographies of the main actors.

The DVD cover and menu have the original movie poster art.

The lighthouse histories was pretty cool. It told about the "Point Conception" AND "Piedras Blancas" lighthouses plus there were photos of both.

In short, this DVD was close in quality to an official release.

I don't remember the seller and there's no info on the DVD about who distributes it.-, but believe me there ARE good copies.

I still want to see an official release (which I would buy immediately). But I feel pretty lucky to have found this copy.

UPDATE: Yes, I got the official copy now. Looks pristine. Only downside - No Extras on the official release.

It's still worth getting for it's terrific video quality. I'll keep the other copy too which has the cool extras.
