Jody is pathetic and gets off too easy

Grown man pouts like a baby all movie and tries to kill his father (along with a barn full of horses), then is instantly forgiven and earns the love and respect of his father because he opens the barn door, probably because he realizes the full gravity of the situation and not really out of love for his father- does not deserve that smoking hot wife.

He was a turd in the movie.

How come they have no children? Seems they have nonstop sex?

I agree Robert4770, they are constantly pawing at each other, until she tells him to find another hobby anyway. Maybe looks are deceiving!

I agree Jody is a man child which is why Will comes to treat Quick more like a son than him. He's unlikable but again when he is up against Quick who is played by one of the most charismatic actors to have ever graced the big screen, it's hard to be anything but put off him. We route for Quick cause he's the under dog Jody is spoiled he's not used to hard labour till sweating and toiling to get results like Will. Will was like Ben Quick he was a lusty youth with a hunger to rise out of where he was and make something of himself he married into money.

The only reason Jody got off without being arrested was Will realised how much he had been neglecting him to push him to that point and practically Will was a smart man he didn't want to risk Jody losing it again and potentially costing his life the Varner reputation and eventually running the businessess to the ground so he gave him the validation Jody desperately wanted. It was more about preservation of the family than forgiveness.
