The Ending- heres what I think really happened

There was no Headless Horseman nor was it Brom Bones- well it was but it wasn't. Basically Brom Bones was the Horseman's instigator. He knew Ichabod was superstitious, he also knew that Ichabod was his biggest rival for Katrina's affections. So he invented the story to freak Ichabod out. He knew Ichabod was so ``girly`` or unmanly the story would have a big effect on him especially on Halloween night.

So when Ichabod's in the forest with the ghostly atmosphere, the darkness it has a big effect on his mind. Remember when he sees those flower moving and making odd noises in the wind. He freaks out then sees them and he picks them up and starts laughing. Look at his face those big cartoon eyes. He's losing it. Phycologically he's completely abandoed his sense of reason and logic. The mind can be very powerful. So I think he imagined the headless horseman was there. His mind created the whole chase scene and everything the noise of the horseman's laughter and the hooves, were in fact all those animals and plants you see making the noises when he first goes into the forest.

And when they find the pumpkin by the hat- well Sleepy Hollow is a rural farm area there are lots of fruit and vegtables around. When Ichabod is running/riding away his horse happens to tread on it if you look there's hoof prints by it.

And Ichabod is probably scared into moving away from the village of Sleepy Hollow and marries a wealthy widow in a nearby town.

Interesting take...I still think it was Brom Bones dressed up and riding a horse trying to fück with Ichabod's head since Brom knew the story had scared Ichabod. The pumpkin the Headless Horseman is carrying is the one from the party. I think Ichabod's hat fell off as he was riding away and he ran away to another town and didn't come back.

But in the show, Brom tells the story sort of as a last resort-- so how could he have made a costume so quickly and gotten back into position to scare Ichabod? I always took it that the Horseman was real because Ichabod looked down the neck hole and would have known it was Bones at that point.

Could be, or that Brom regularly likes to do this sort of thing. Maybe not just him but his friends as well.
