During the climactic chase, it seems that Ichabod loses his umbrella sometime before they go underwater and is swatting Gunpowder's rear with his hand. Ichabod also grabs onto that tree with both hands and clings to his horse with his heels. Shortly thereafter, just after the mudslide turnabout near the bridge, Ichabod once again is in possession of the umbrella.
