Puzzling disappointment

Until I read the review by Trevor Aclea in this listing, I had no idea how a film with the title of Lafayette Escadrille, "directed by" the legendary William Wellman (a WWI aviator who directed Wings) ended up looking like this mess. This is a prime example of a studio's interference destroying what could have been a classic film.

I'm watching it right now on TCM.

It's not very good at all.

And watching it now on TCM too. Every time I see this is on I tune it in to see why I never liked it, and it doesn't take long to see why. Woulda, coulda, shoulda been a fine film but nothing like it. Casting is bland, so is the acting and the dialogue. A real shame.

I have a feeling this is not the film William Wellman wanted to make. If left alone, to make his own decisions I bet this could have been a terrific film.

I want to see it now.
