15 minutes of fame

At one point in the film, publicity executive Goda declares of the public, “They’re eager to find stars. Everyone gets their 15 minutes, writers, transvestites, thieves. Why not Kyoko? We’ll make her a big star.”

Did he really say “15 minutes”? If that’s what he said, it predates Andy Warhol’s famous pronouncement about “15 minutes of fame” by several years. I listened to the Japanese dialogue and he never says “jugo,” or 15, so I’m guessing the subtitler at the DVD company that released this film, working decades after this film was made, was using dramatic license. I would have preferred a strict translation of what he said. I’m really bothered when subtitlers put modern expressions in the dialogue that never would have been used by the characters in question.
