Non-battle scenes better than battle scenes

Just saw this one after picking it up cheap on DVD. The war scenes seemed pretty standard, and neither Sinatra nor Curtis seemed that bothered. The scenes in Nice were considerably better acted and put together.

Anyone else of the same opinion?

Well, when you consider the fact that the story is really about the Sinatra/Wood/Curtis love triangle, with WWII France as the setting, it would only make sense that the battle scenes might not be as compelling as the soap opera elements.
