Bessie Smith and Jacques Frenet??

When Tony Curtis and Natalie Wood meet, she asks him if he is familiar with the "music of Bessie Smith" and he asks her if she likes "Jacques Frenet" (Could be spelled Frenais. In any case, I've been looking for a French singer by that name and can't find one. There is a Charles Trenet who would be in the correct time period, but the name mentioned was Jacques, not Charles - Trenet, not Frenet.

Anyone know who they were talking about?
