Michael Curtizs' direction. the Kings' acting. They dont make it like this anymore.

That's for sure!

Just today my Mum said that it is one of those "evergreen" movies you can never get sick of watching, no matter how many times you've seen it/

it would have been better if filmed in colour!

King Creole is certainly one of Elvis's better films -- and in every respect, from the storyline to the directing, cinematography, location filming, acting and music. The black and white photography is one of its best assets and for that I'm glad it wasn't shot in colour. It evokes the mood and tone of the film most strongly, something that may have been lost a tad had it been filmed in colour. I may have had Walter Matthau and Paul Stewart in each other's roles, whilst the Maxie Fields character needed a bit more narrative sustenance, but those are minor quibbles for a relatively fine movie.

I agree it is a superb film and Elvis himself admitted on many occasions it is his favourite!
