Something bothering me...

I saw the film for the first time last night and really enjoyed it. The filmmaking technique was incredible. There was something I didn't understand and it had to do with the princess being mute. When they're resting for the night, the brothel owner wants to buy the princess because of how attractive she is, but when he finds out she's mute he loses all interest. Now I'm assuming it has something to do with being mute equals bad luck, or some sort of curse of some kind. That would make sense for a poor bar/brothel owner to be superstitious, but I couldn't find information about it online. Any thoughts?

I thought it was because the dude wanted his women to run whatever type of shop that place was.

I think its more simple than that. In a brothel, I'd imagine its like a strip club. Part of the woman's role is to chat up/seduce the client. Most men that visit brothels, despite having reduced sex to a commercial transaction, want more than a passive body to "do their thing" with. They want her to moan and praise their prowess. A mute would provide none of that
